Two weeks with a metal detector

At a nearby library, one can rent a karaoke machine, sewing machine, telescope, or a metal detector. I chose the metal detector and spent the next two weeks waving it over land and water like a wand, blessing or casting spells or both, and then writing about it all—quite disjointedly—here.
